How to clear duplicate documents

Every real archive is 20% duplicates. Here's how to get that back.

The same insurance PDF is in here four times. The email attachment, the one I downloaded, the one I scanned, and one I genuinely cannot explain.

Two identical files are easy. The hard case is four different files that are one policy — a scan, a re-scan, a photo and the original share no bytes at all, yet are obviously one thing to a person.

Grouping is a suggestion, never an action. The app will tell you four files look like one document; deciding which survives stays with you, and anything you remove goes to Trash rather than disappearing.

Then stop filing by hand

Organize proposes collections from what the documents are — one provider, one person, one category. Accept what makes sense, ignore the rest.

Duplicates→ review a group→ keep one→ rest go to Trash
